CLASS OVERVIEW
chThe use of various computer programs, including the Internet, is essential for success in high school, college, & the workplace. Studies indicate that employers consider computer literacy skills as important as reading and writing ability*. Thus the need to prepare elementary students for a computer intensive future is vital. Recognizing this, my school district provides weekly computer classes to all K-5 students.
In order to show young students that computer use is an important life skill and not just a toy or testing tool, my classes include the following three components:

- Computer literacy skills such as keyboarding, word processing, and using various programs to create products.
- Curriculum-related activity to reinforce classroom learning in a fun way. Programs such as IXL Math, Moby Max Science, or Starfall Reading is used. Sometimes during this time, students use the internet to complete research activities.
- Safe free choice allows students to choose from my website to apply the computer skills they are learning and provides them with the opportunity to share ideas with their classmates.
